A freshly cleaned filter at full force is about 48 hours away from bypassing. I also drilled a ton of extra holes in the basket's bottom, and it didn't make any difference. I wonder if Seachem discontinued them because they were causing too much bypass. I see Seachem doesn't have them on their website anymore.ĮDIT: Found them! You are being redirected. I seem to recall Seachem selling pre-cut polyfill pads when the filter first came out. I think the original Seachem foam is 10 or 15 ppi, so it's pretty coarse. and put in the back of Matrix it comes with, and some polyfill, it will immediately bypass.

If I go back to the original Seachem foam. The only thing keeping it from bypassing is the surface tension of the water. With freshly cleaned sponges, it's still on the verge of bypass. I have 2 1" 10 PPI pieces of foam in it, and 2 1" pieces of 20 PPI foam in it, so now I only have 4" of foam in it in stead of 5" inches. Well, I think it's time to get rid of the Tidal 75. I'm kind of tempted to see if I could hack an Aquaclear to use a Tidal motor.

Now that the Emperor Pro, Whisper EX and Tidal are out, all with the pump in the tank, I hope that the engineers at Haagen are working on an Aquaclear filter with the motor in the water. Does thing eventually get quieter? I can deal with the noise level now, because it's in my family room, but I would not use this filter in a bedroom. But it's not as quiet as the Emperor 400 or an Aquaclear 70. With a fish store gift card in hand, I thought I would try the Tidal 75 to see if it might be quieter than the 110. I ended up returning the 110 and the extra motor to Amazon for a refund and gave up on the Tidal. I made a video and sent it Seachem and they sent me a new motor and impeller. But the noise level was completely unacceptable. I bought a Tidal 110 back in 2018 and REALLY tried to get it to work. The Tidal's motor is inside the tank, so the sound has to go through water AND glass before it makes it to my ears. And that bothers me because the Emperor had it's motor outside the aquarium. It's significantly louder than the Emperor 400 that it replaced. I don't find the Tidal to be all that quiet at all. I watched all these YouTube videos about how quiet the filter is supposed to be. If things get really murky, I can just throw some polyfill in there for a few hours and crank up the flow. The foam in the Aquaclear is 20 PPI, and an Aquaclear has never failed to keep my tank clean. I think I will follow the plans of Cichlidude and drill some extra holes and get 10 PPI and 20 PPI foam. I should be able to run this thing with a full basket and full flow. If I turn the flow rate down, then I can get it to shrink back down. Then I pulled out the 40 PPI foam and just left the 20 and 30 PPI foam in there, and the blue float was now only 25% up. I went to bed, and when I woke up in the morning, the blue pop-up on the lid was up, and when I took the lid off, I could see a lot of bypass. The water was just sitting there, right on the edge of the white basket. Turned the filter on and got real close to bypass. I cut foams out of each PPI and stacked them from bottom to top at 20, 30 and then 40. Last year I bought a 3 pack of pond foam, which had a 20 PPI, 30 PPI, 40 PPI sponge sheet. It's a little frustrating to me that the filter has bypass issues with a media basket that's full and with the flow cranked up to max. I like the IDEA of the filter, more than I like the execution. I am the owner of a new Seachem Tidal 75. How I fill my Seachem Tidal 75 with media now | 436026 | Filters and Filtrationīut, sadly it's closed to further comments. I created an account, just so I could ask some questions on this thread:
